Gateway Golden Retriever Rescue
About Us

Our Mission
Providing for the welfare of unwanted Goldens, with lifelong loving homes and public education, always striving for a betterment of the breed with our efforts.

Gateway Golden Retriever Rescue is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that rescues and places unwanted and displaced Golden Retrievers for adoption in loving homes. We are based in St. Louis, Missouri, and operate in St. Louis city, county, and the surrounding areas. We work tirelessly to give these Golden Retrievers a "second chance at life". We strive to educate the public about Golden Retrievers, their lifespan, personality, activity level, and overall responsible dog ownership.

Volunteer with a Golden at an Information/Adoption DayIf space is available, dogs entered into the program are placed in foster homes to await adoption. All Goldens are seen by a veterinarian, receive current vaccinations and are tested for heartworms. All dogs are spayed or neutered, depending on their age, before being placed into their new homes.

We attempt to match each dog with the adoptive families. All prospective adoptive families must complete a telephone interview and receive a home visit before a Golden is placed with them. The adoption process may take several weeks to several months, depending on the requirements of the adoptive family and the Goldens in our program at that time.

Adoption Day Members of Golden Retriever Rescue are available to answer questions about Goldens and to help solve behavioral problems. Our goal is to help the adopted Goldens become permanent family members in their new homes.

Golden Retriever Rescue of Greater St. Louis (GRR-GSL) was established January 1, 1984 by two individuals who loved and trained Goldens. The organization quickly grew into a well staffed and trained group of volunteers. In November of 1999 we adopted the name Gateway Golden Retriever Rescue (GGRR) to reflect the geography and breed we serve. The word "gateway" not only symbolizes the St. Louis area, but also our role in providing a gateway for Goldens in finding permanent, loving homes.

Since Gateway Golden Retriever Rescue is run by volunteers (only), we rely on adoption fees and donations for support of our rescue activities. Because we are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, your donations are tax-deductable.

Volunteers and donations are gratefully welcomed!
